چکیده

High-resolution direct numerical simulation data for three-dimensional Navier-Stokes turbulence in a periodic box are used to study the scaling behavior of low-order velocity structure functions with positive and negative powers. Similar to high-order statistics, the low-order relative scaling exponents exhibit unambiguous departures from the Kolmogorov 1941 theory and agree well with existing multiscaling models. No transition from normal scaling to anomalous scaling is observed. [S0031-9007(96)01548-7]

Simulation of Low Reynolds Number Isotropic Turbulence Including the Passive Scalar

Full simulations of homogeneous isotropic turbulence containing a homogeneous passive scalar were made at low Reynolds numbers and various Prandtl numbers. The results show that the spectral behavior of the two fields are quite similar; both fields decay as power-law functions of time. However. the decay exponent is quite dependent on both the Reynolds and Prandtl numbers. The decay exponent of...

Numerical scaling analysis of the small-scale structure in turbulence

We show how to use numerical methods within the framework of successive scaling to analyse the microstructure of turbulence, in particular to find inertial range exponents and structure functions. The methods are first calibrated on the Burgers problem and are then applied to the 3D Euler equations. Known properties of low order structure functions appear with a relatively small computational o...

Turbulence anisotropy and the SO3 description.

We study strongly turbulent windtunnel flows with controlled anisotropy. Using a recent formalism based on angular momentum and the irreducible representations of the SO(3) rotation group, we attempt to extract this anisotropy from the angular dependence of second-order structure functions. Our instrumentation allows a measurement of both the separation and the angle dependence of the structure...

Dynamic multiscaling in magnetohydrodynamic turbulence.

We present a study of the multiscaling of time-dependent velocity and magnetic-field structure functions in homogeneous, isotropic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in three dimensions. We generalize the formalism that has been developed for analogous studies of time-dependent structure functions in fluid turbulence to MHD. By carrying out detailed numerical studies of such time-dependent st...

Probing turbulence in OMC1 at the star forming scale: observations and simulations

Using radial velocities of vibrationally excited H2 emission in OMC1 we present the structure functions and the scaling of the structure functions with their order at scales ranging from 70AU to 30000AU extending earlier related studies to scales lower by two orders of magnitude. The structure functions for OMC1 show clear deviations from power laws at 1500AU. The scaling of the higher order st...
